Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday October 2, 2013. Any of you looking for cooler temperatures this week into next are going to be very disappointed. Daily highs will remain in the 70s well into next week and beyond. On Lake Ontario those who still have boats that have not been winterized yet are doing well in 30 to 80 feet of water when wind conditions allow them to get out. Because of the warmer air and water temperatures tributary fish are most active early morning and late evening. Those working off the jetties at the Point are catching their share of a mixed bag of fish. On the Oak not only Salmon are present but also a fair number of both Brown and Steelhead/Rainbow trout. Also on the Oak Perch fishing has been good for some along with Northern pike and Bass. In the smaller tributaries within Orleans County the Salmon runs are just beginning to take place. On Lake Alice Bluegill catches are down and Crappie catches are holding their own. The upper Oak Orchard River, above Lake Alice, is a great spot to enjoy some fantastic Bass fishing from a small boat or kayak while the warm weather still is with us. All in all it seems to be fairly good fishing whatever body of water you are on within Orleans County. From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
