Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario

Today is Wednesday October 16, 2013. Cooler temperatures and some precipitation are the order well into next week and beyond. Night time temperatures next week are expected to drop below freezing away from Lake Ontario and the near lake tributaries. These cooler temperatures and precipitation should spur the fall run of Salmon and Trout into our tributaries to a much higher level. Presently Oak Orchard River along with John, Marsh and Sandy Creeks all have a good number of fish available for your enjoyment. Surprisingly there are still fish being taken on Lake Ontario both from small boats along the shoreline near the mouths of the tributaries and from the piers. On Lake Alice fishing efforts have slowed a bit, maybe due to hunting season being upon us, but fair catches of Bass are still being reported. At the Point on Oak Orchard River fair to good catches of Perch are being taken. With cooler air and water temperatures closing in on us it might be a good time to refresh your thoughts on safety practices while wading our tributaries. Let's not spoil some fantastic fishing opportunities by a momentary lapse of paying attention to what may be taking an unnecessary risk. From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario the World Fishing Network's 2013 Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great and safe fishing day right here in Orleans County.
