Today is Wednesday September 30, 2015. The rainy and cooler weather that is in the forecast for the next week or so should really send the signal to the trout and salmon that are waiting to make their spawning runs that our tributaries are open and ready for them. The cooler and higher water flows are already having an effect at the mouths of the tributaries within Orleans County for both Chinook salmon and Brown trout. Those casting stick baits and heavier spoons are reporting a good number of fish aggressively hitting those lures. The same can be said for those in smaller boats that are working the entrances to those tributaries when the weather permits. To this point most of the tributaries within Orleans County are showing slightly stained water but that could quickly change as the rain continues. All of our tributaries are showing signs of the beginnings of both salmon and trout runs. On Lake Alice Bluegill and Crappie fishing on the Waterport Bridge is picking up as is the Perch fishing. As always Bass are the most prominent warm water fish being caught on our inland waters. Just a reminder that the St. Mary's Archers Club Catch and Release Derby will take place on October 21st and 22nd this year. It's a great opportunity to ply your fly fishing skills against some other great fly casters in the area and from far away. From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
