Offshore, we have been catching lots of big Blackfin tuna while drifting with live baits. It is probably the best tuna fishing I have seen in recent years, and the best part is that they are biting only a mile offshore. I have been running the drop off south out of Boynton Inlet until I find good concentrations of flying fish. I say find the flyers and you find the tuna. While tuna fishing we have also been hooking into plenty of false albacore, sailfish, kingfish, and mahi mahi. Our biggest blackfin tuna last week weighed in at 39 lbs! The inshore fishing has really started to heat up around the beaches, spillways, and inlets for snook and tarpon. The best snook fishing has been around the spillway after a heavy rain when the gates open up. Live bait is the best bet, but shad tail plastic lures are also working well. The biggest tarpon of the year are moving in small pods along the beaches where they can be sight casted with live baits or fly rods. These tarpon are averaging 80 to 150 lbs and now is the peak of the season for them.
