Report for Canyon Lake & Lake LBJ, Texas

Canyon Lake

LAKE BUCHANAN After being almost 50% low less than 2 months ago, Buchanan has returned to within 8 feet of normal pool. The activities of the largemouth, smallmouth and stripers have returned along with the water. Our clients are taking largemouth in the larger creeks such as Morgan, Beaver and Maxwell Slough as well as the far upper islands around the Apple Orchard. Flooded brush and flats with stumps are producing fish to 6 lbs. on 1 1/2" Lit'l Fishie Shad, 1.4 oz. white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits & watermelon/char. Scremer worms. Along ledges of the large creeks, pitching a pumpkin/char. Curb's jig with matching Jig Claw trailer and watermelon Creme Super Tubes. Using X-Spurt Pro Formula Fish Attractant always increases the catch ratio for our clients. For inforamtion on Buchanan's bass or striper fishing or to book a guided trip contact Jim Files, JR'S GUIDE SERVICE., www.jrguideservice.com at (830) 833-5688 or email [email protected]. LAKE LBJ The very welcome deluge that south-central Texas reeceived in November has kept LBJ too muddy to fish for the past three weeks. Now that the mud has settled out, most of the creeks and pockets are only stained and very fishable, giving up fish to 8 lbs. We're working the shallower creeks of the upper lake with 1 1/2" Creme Lit'l Fishie Shads, 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps and Minnie Bucket plastic jerkbaits. At mid lake the clear water inside of rocky points are producing bass on watermelon Creme Scoundrels and Devil's Tongues fished in 4'-8'. If I can help with information or if you wish to book a trip on one of the best bass lakes in central Texas contact Jim Files, JR'S GUIDE SERVICE www.jrguideservice.com at (830) 833-5688 or email me at [email protected]. We specialize in tournament prefishing, family or corporate trips. Canyon Lake Canyon Lake can be, and recently has been, an exercise in frustration. Just after the abnormal rise of almost 10' above pool which flooded bushes and willows, largemouth seemed to be everywhere in 4'-6' along the outside of buck brush and very cooperative on white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps and Creme Lit'l Fishie Shads. But with the passage of another front, overnight, the bite shut off in the shallows and the fish moved to deep, rocky, secondary points in 12'-24' of water where they only wanted a junebug or motor oil Devil's Tongues or pumpkin spider grubs. We anticipate even a slight warmup will move them back shallow. The smallmouth fishing, however, has been exceptional, for this time of year. Creme Devil's Tongues worked on split shot rigs, small Lit'l Fishie Shads and 1/8 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits worked in 8'-16' are taking fish to over 3 lb.
