CANYON LAKE Surface water temperatures above 80 degrees, heavy recreational boating traffic and windy conditions are making fishing difficult during the day in the main lake. Our night/early morning trips have been the most successful for our clients lately. We are working upriver mostly using 1/8 oz. black "Tiny-T" Terminator buzzbaits, black 1/4 oz. single bladed Terminator spinnerbaits and prop-type topwaters such as Rat-L-Tops across creek points and on stump flats on channel turns Expect to find fish in 4'-10' of water at night. During the day it's a whole different world. By the time the sun is over the horizon bass have moved in tight to the cover of laydowns and standing timber. Pitching watermelon/pepper 4" or 6" Disc Lizards (by Big Bite Baits www.bigbitebaits.com), watermelon Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs, white 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits or 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad will produce for the first hour. After that work a pumpkin/ chartreuse, pumpkin/red spider jig or Chameleon Scoundrel wom into thick cover in 8' +.
