Canyon Lake

CANYON LAKE The lake is gradually clearing after heavy, continual rains and heavy runoff that brought the river up to near flood stage and muddied the entire upper end and all south side feeder creeks. The good news is that Canyon Lake is at normal pool of 909' for the first time in 18 months. LARGEMOUTH are fair to good in north side creeks in 2'-5' early on blue/green Terminator buzzbaits, Shootin Shad plastic jerkbaits and Creme 1 1/2" Lit'l Fishie Shad worked in creeks. Later, look for activity to move to deeper banks with eith chunck or boulder rocks. Fish a 3" amber or crawdad Super Tube, grape or purple Scoundrel worm or Creme Devil's Tongue down ledges. SMALLMOUTH are fair to good in clear water areas in 8'-15' on smokin' green Devils Tongues on drop shot rigs and smoke/copper flake Kapalia twin tail grubs STRIPER action is hit or miss with some early morning surface action along lake points using rainbow trout color Berkley topwater walker, Rat-L-Traps and Curb's white bucktails. Drifting live bait remains the most effective method. ALL CATFISH are extremely good with yellow cats to 16 pounds being taken on live bait upriver. LAKE LBJ The LCRA (river authority) still cautions residents and boaters that floating hazards are numerous up the Colorado and along midlake areas. Water is 72 degrees and very muddy. LARGEMOUTH are good in the very lower end on Ice Tea Devil's Tongues and light motor oil ring worms fished in 4'-8' where water is beginning to clear. WHITE BASS are very good in the mouth of major creeks and pockets using 1 12" Lit'l Fishies on 6 lb. test. CATFISHING IS EXCELLENT using live goldfish, perch and large minnows.
