Report for Canyon Lake & Lake LBJ, Texas

Canyon Lake

LAKE BUCHANAN BLACK BASS fishing is very good right now. This lake has been refilled by recent rains and bass are very active. Our clients are catching fish in 2'-6' of water along main lake points and in 2'-4 ditches around the islands in the upper lake area using 1 1/2" Creme Lit'l Fishie Shads, 1/8 or 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits/buzzbaits, Texas rigged Scoundrel worms and Jade Stone 2000 series 'Traps. Expect this to continue into at least Dec. unless hard cold fronts drop surface temperatures to quickly. STRIPER fishing is also very good. Clients are boating limits of fish up to 27" while drifting live bait from Flag Island to the dam. Good topwater action under the birds using chrome 'Traps, threadfish Berkley topwaters and 1/4oz. white bucktail jigs with trailers. Expect to see topwater activity any where and at any time in the midlake area. For a guide trip for stripers, largemouth, smallmouth, white bass and crappie contact Jim Files of JR'S GUIDE SERVICE at (830) 833-5688 or email [email protected] We are FULLTIME guides fishing Lakes Buchanan, LBJ/Marble Falls, Canyon Lake and Choke Canyon. LAKE LBJ During the flood conditions we recently experienced in south central Texas the BLACK BASS hunkered down behind and in brush piles where they waited for the heavy current and muddy water to recede. Now that it has settled down, the bass are back into their fall patterns chasing shad up very shallow and into pockets and coves. Working creeks and pockets with plenty of stumps and laydowns is producing some of the largest fish for our clients. Early and all day under cloudy skies we are throwing 1/4 oz. silver/blue Terminator buzzbaits/spinnerbaits,1 1/2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, plastic jerkbaits and 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps. As the morning progresses follow the fish out to the first breakline at the end of boat docks in 5'-8' of water. Wacky rigged Scoundrel worms and 3" amber or watermelon Creme Super Tubes worked from right against the rip rap out to the front of docks is producing well. STRIPERS are working shad in the shoals below Inks Dam as are white bass. Try white Curb's bucktails, #5 Shad Raps and Frenzy poppers. CRAPPIE are back with a vengence too. All bridge pilings on the Colorado & Llano Rivers are producing limits of 12-17"fish using Creme Tiny Tubes, Curb'scrappie jigs and live minnows. Color is a day to day matter. Primaries are chartreuse and pearl or white.
