Fishing has gotten into the summer pattern right on time with all the species cooperating nicely. While we are still getting limit snapper catches on some 4 hour trips most are producing a few fish under the limit . Lots of other species filling in the blanks though. The king bite is on again off again, sometimes on the same day they'll bite for awhile, shut down and then turn ferocious for awhile. The old "right place right time" adage must have been written about fishing originally. On two of the mornings I launched this week the spanish were in the surf just cuttin' up all over the surface. One day the folks wanted to stop and catch 'em, the next day they wated to keep going and chase bigger fish. It worked out well for each party. There have still been quite a few groupers up in close ( within 6 miles of the beach). We have been getting a couple to eat just about every trip. Not that we've caght all the bites. These fish have been around the block by now and are trained profesionals . If the angler gives 'em a foot, or even a 5 second break at the start of the fight they will have dove down in a hole. All the easy ones have been caught so you've got to ready when you get the bite. Lots of triggers still around along with pink snappers and mingos. My folks yesterday started making a list of all the different species they had caught and ran out of paper! It should be a good summer for all my anglers. The fish are here and we know where they live. Capt. Larry Pentel
