Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Destin

After taking everybody else fishing all year on their vacations I get to take mine starting tomorrow. My family and I are going to the Bahamas to chase bonefish and lobsters and avoid this cold front the weather man says is coming. I know, lots of "bus drivers holiday" jokes but we just love to be on the water. I've spent most of the last two weeks working on the fish camp over at Indian pass but I have got to spend a few days on the water. I ran a 4 hour this morning out of grayton. A man and his wife who had the prettiest weather imaginable to spend catching fish. They had about 2 dozen triggers, some pinks and a small shark that we kept and cleaned and a truck load of snappers and even some jacks that we released. Only a couple of grouper bites but they were good enough to win the battle. Back at the "Pass" the redfish are thick. The trick of course is to have the high sky day and (semi) clear water so you can sight fish 'em. I fished one over-cast day they were so thick we throwing top waters to the waking fish and even caught a few. Not very often you can get a red to blow up on top. I've got trips on the books for the first week of Jan. back here again but untill then-- I'M FISHIN' FOR ME !!!!! Capt. Larry Pentel
