Summer is here and the fishin' is easy. The cobias have slowed way down so most of my time has been spent running bottom trips the past week or so. Lots of fish around with the summer patterns falling in to place. The kings are starting to show but not hot enough yet for me to want to target 'em. I got one day before yesterday on a slip lead rig and yesterday one hit the fly pole. As much as I love a good mackeral rally I usaully wait till a limits a "sure thing" 'fore we drag minnows around. The Amberjacks have hit the beach and if your the 1st one to a school of 'em you can hammer 'em pretty hard. I stopped on a big rock the other day with 2 anglers and the first guy down got one at 20# and the other felllow broke his off. 45 minutes latter and the 5th jack broke off I left the school to catch snappers elsewhere. The fellow is a good angler but I think he hooked th 5 biggest jacks on the rock in quick sucsesion. The sharks have showed up also. Lots and lots of 'em at all sizes. The big ones are fast becoming a pain. Yesterday my angler lost a 10# snapper to a bull right under the boat- we watched him eat the fish. A couple of days ago we were jack fishing and a 200# bull ate the 1st jack we hooked and got hooked himself. After half an hour we got the shark to the boat, took has picture and let 'em go. Went back to the jacks only to have the same thing happen again!! This was a different shark 'cause he didn't have a hook in his lip from 10 minutes before. Needless to say the jacks shut down and we went snapper fishin' The snapper bite remains strong with some good size fish still around. I've had quite a few fish over 10# the past week or so even on the 4 hour trips. The vermillion snapper ( Bee-Liners) are real thick in 90 feet or so with lots of them over a pound. Not quite braggin photo fish but they are easy to catch and sure taste good. I've managed to have a limit of Red Snapper every trip since the season opened so my folks have had lots of photo ops. The biggest one we kodaked this week was 17#- he was sittin' next to a 14# ! Hopefully we'll have a calm dry summer and get to take advantage of all these fish out there to catch. I can't wait!!!!!!
