Out with a Bang!! Today was my last trip in Grayton for a while as I pack up and go to Indian Pass for Tarpon season tommorrow. I picked my folks up at 8 with a lot "weather" building offshore. I told my folks we'd stop at a training spot real close to the truck and watch to see what the squalls did. In about an hour everybody had a feel for what to do and we had 5 nice red snappers in the box. The weather was still threatening but holding off so I told my anglers we might not get all our 4 hours in but we'd get 6 hours of fish in the box. I ran to another close in spot I knew was packing and we put 15 FINE reds in the box along with a 6# black snapper. The weather was movin' in fast now so we ran to a bait spot right behind the truck and caught a king and 2 Mahi trolling before putting the boat back on the trailer at 10:20. Not only did we have a full box in a short time we got to watch some other folks come in 15 minutes latter and get nailed by the now 25 knot winds and sloppy seas . -Timing is everything- On the tarpon front they seem to have showed up right on schedule. My wife is at the store at the "pass" 1/2 the week so I get all the info. She said Sunday a fellow came in all shook up. He had been fishin' in a kayak right in front of the boat ramp and hooked a "small" (60#) tarpon on a trout lure only to have it drag him out the pass and into the breakers before he broke it off. Told my wife he was going to go fishing up in the lagoon from now on where it was safe! Hopefully the weather will stay hot, calm and dry and we'll have a banner Tarpon run. My next report will have all the details. If anybody is going to be down for the 4th and figured it was too late to book a boat give me a call. My trip for the 3rd(Sat.) just had to cancel. I had been booked for months but it was definately not something they wanted to happen- we'll go jump a 2 tubber. capt. Larry Pentel
