Report for Long Island Sound

Norwalk Islands

Friday morning's trip was with Mitch Kreuch of Darien and three of his business colleagues. Winds were high, but so were their spirits--after catching seven striped bass, including one keeper--off of Green's Ledge Light. In the afternoon that same day we had Lee Mitchell of Darien and his friend, Fred Sutton of Ruston, LA. The seas were even rougher than they were in the morning, but the boys limited out on keeper bass (with a total of stripers), some bluefish up to 8 pounds and a jumbo porgy measuring 18". On Saturday morning we sailed with Murray Verlin again; this time he brought along a business associate, visiting from Italy. The winds were still with us, but we got a nice catch of porgies in the middle of the Sound. Sunday's trip was with Jim Preston of Westport and Vero Beach FL. Jim was entertaining his teen-aged grandson, P.J., who was visiting from California. Early in the trip the youngster caught his first striped bass ever--using a sandworm--and grandpa bagged a 30-inch keeper later on. All told, they got a dozen stripers.
