Bob Hertzl and his son, Greg--who just moved from Westport to Danbury, had a great time blindcasting large bluefish off of Copp's; all of the fish were in the 8-9 pound class. Mike Cohen of New York City, spending the summer in Westport, took his wife and sons out for what turned out to be a fabulous day, with acres of bluefish on the surface near Cockenoe. The family had non-stop action, and also brought in some fluke and large porgies as a by-catch. Wiltonite, Rod Carnes, and his 7-year-old son, both of them excellent fishermen, sailed with us for the first time last week. They caught porgies and blues and striped bass, and the youngster hooked a 13-pound blue and brought him in on 10-pound test line. Another Wilton resident, Timothy Finn, brought the whole family aboard "My Bonnie" and everyone caught large porgies, keeper fluke, and a few blues. It was a slow start, but Brendan Delaney and some corporate colleagues enjoyed a wonderful trip with breaking bluefish off of Calf Pasture, bringing in 20 and keeping ten for a company barbecue in the evening. Joe Beres of Norwalk and a friend had a good afternoon with bluefish on the surface off of Sheffield Island. They pulled in blues 3-5 pounds, and they kept a dozen for a Labor Day cookout at a family reunion. Joel Gendels of Fairfield brought along his two sons and two of the boys' friends with their father. After searching a good part of the morning, we finally found a school of blues off of Cockenoe. They were fairly inexperienced, but they managed to bring in a few, after which we found a nice bunch of porgies--with the boys boating more than 30 and a fluke and three sea bass for good measure.
