Report for Long Island Sound

Norwalk Islands

Well, it's that time of year again--the post-Labor Day slump. Some folks think that since the summer’s officially over, so’s the fishing.  But there’s no truth in that, just a psychological attitude.  We had just two trips for the week, and both were taken by Murray Verlin of Stamford, who returned for his third and fourth trip of the season.  His first fishing buddy was wife, Coleen—a fine fisherwoman.  They slammed the blues for most of the morning—all on top and all in the 3-5 pound class.  Then on Tuesday Verlin brought along his gardener/caretaker and “birthday boy”, Tuto.  They did very well fishing on the top off of Copp’s and Middle Passage, bringing in a dozen blues weighing 3-6 pounds.  Verlin wanted to try for some striped bass, so I took him to Goose Island, where he nailed a 27.5” striper—just short of a keeper. The blues are coming in a bit fatter after so much feeding this summer, and the bait’s still around.
