Sanibel Fishing

Sanibel

I guess we are pretty spoiled in South west Florida, Saturday I got a call from a friend that had boat problems, and ran his trip for him. As it turned out we lucked into the best bunch of redfish I have seen all year. The bonus was when an unknown shark grabbed the light tackle Cabo 30 outfit and ran off 150 yards of 15 lb braid before he stopped. What a surprised angler, fishing in 18 inches of water. The wind and rain have been out of the west for 2 weeks straight making a trip to the beach impossible. I have been fishing Matlacha and the protected areas of Pine Island Sound. If you stay near shelter you can take advantage of some good fishing, even if the weather looks like rain. The bonus on the cloudy days has been the light traffic on the water, we've had it all to ourselves. Soon the weather will clear and fishing the beaches will continue. The snook have been plentiful with trout and Spanish mixed in. As long as the wind blows from the west I will be in the back bay looking for some reds and trout . Let's catch fish!!!
