Backbay: Addendum: Lots of snook on the Oyster bars and in the creeks today 08-29-13!!!! We had some more rain and the zero dark thirty high tides made it for some challenging shallow water fishing. There were reds on the bars and in the potholes on the late morning fallout, if 8 a.m. is considered late morning. Tides were more workable by midweek and we managed some decent redfish bites, a few bush-bound snook and the return of trout action. There were mobs of bait crazed jacks that hacked topwater, jigs and flies. The chase was on, so one guy ran the skiff while the others pitch long casts to the birds and boils, good stuff, fish averaged 4-8 lbs. There are pomps, flounder and snapper under the bushes, on the open flats and potholes and in the channels and passes. You can have some fun easy living action with a few surprises like slot reds, snook, sharks and big jacks if you've a mind to. There's some baby tarpon up in the feeder creeks and big time snook action in the bigger rivers. These critters adapt fairly well the freshwater. There are still poons you can chase off the beaches up on the m north end of our region. The Peace, Myakka and Franklin Locks are place to look fro poons, get early first light starts.
