September is the time For Red Fish on the Nature Coast

Crystal River

The fishing in crystal river this past week has been the best it has been all year. September marks the beginning of fall and fall is my favorite time of year to be on the water. The day star getting shorter and cooler. The tides get a little more extreme. And all species of fish start to forage for high protein and fattening food and that's good because their is plenty of it around. Those big bull red fish move in form offshore to start the next generation of the species. Some of these fish are upwards of 30 lbs. with 15 to 20 lbers. common this past Saturday I had the pleasure to have Joe,Barbra, and,Robert on board for a full day trip. At the first area that we fished we caught a limit of red fish that were between 23 and 27". we also caught several reds that were over the legal slot. before we left the area we also landed a nice cobia and a flounder. All that happened before 11:am. After that we moved to a near by flat that I thought should hold some trout and several other species and it did in just 2 or 3 hours we landed over forty trout and a few mackerel. We were having so much fun doing that we moved to a very similar spot and finished our day catching seat trout, sand trout, lady fish, and mackerel. All in all we had a great day on the water the weather was perfect and the company that I had on the boat could not have been better.
