Full swing summer bite in Port Royal Sound

We are in our summertime mode as the sound is currently loaded with bait. Menhaden schools run in and out with the tides, and the predators follow. The tarpon and big blacktips stay fat on the Menhaden, along with big Crevalle Jack. Some of these Jacks push over the 30 pound mark and are all you can handle on light tackle. They will hit topwaters or bucktails regularly that are pitched into the bait schools. Our early morning trout bite remains good, and promises an excellent fall season. Redfish are still a good option also, feeding in creek mouths and on the flats. Mixed bags are common in the hot summer months.
