Redfish Bite in Beaufort/Hilton Head area
Beaufort, south-carolina

June 01, 2011
Have had several good Redfish days over the Memorial Day weekend and yesterday and today. Took a day off and fished alone on Sunday. I caught 9 nice Redfish and 2 Flounder all on a Redfish Magic. I replace the plastic tail that comes in the package with a 3" Gulp Swimming Mullet, either in Pearl or Chartruse. Both Redfish and Flounder love this spinnerbait and you can cover more water than you can with a popping cork and minnow or shrimp. I throw this spinnerbait a lot when I am scouting new areas looking for new drops. The Cobia bite is still on in the Broad River, and saw several nice schools of Spanish Mackerel today working glass minnows in the River. I also caught a few trout on topwater baits this weekend, which is encouraging because the SC DNR thinks we lost most of our population to winter kill in cold water. We are releasing them all to hopefully spawn. The Redfish bite should continue right on, and the nearshore wrecks and reefs should produce a lot of fish this month.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Rick Percy
