Redfish on the flats

February has been an unusual month as far as fishing goes in the lowcountry of South Carolina. Our weather has been all over the board, from cold and windy and rainy to pretty 70 degree days. The water temperatures have stayed close to the 50 degree mark which is a little higher than normal. The Redfish are schooled up on the flats, and have been biting pretty consistently. My favorite technique for this time of year is a Gulp Molten 4 inch shrimp fished on a 1/8 oz flutter hook. You can dead stick them, or work them very slowly. Both methods have proven to draw bites. As a little bonus, we have also been picking up some nice Trout on this combo. Moving water seems to help the trout bite, while the Redfish are willing to eat even on dead low. Get a pretty day and give it a go.
