Spring Fishing

Anna Maria

Wow what a difference a year makes. Last year at this time we were almost a month behind and now we seem to be a month ahead with the weather patterns. Tarpon have been at the skyway bridge for a solid month. Kingfish are here in good numbers from just off the beaches to twenty miles out. I had a party out friday for a half day trip and we had school size fish in the eight to twelve pound range on for a good hour. We also landed a forty pounder that same day. The trout fishing inshore is some of the best I have seen! Lots of fish over the twenty inch slot with a few fish over twenty four inches and one over twenty seven so far this year. Redfish have been steady but the schools are scattered and the fish size is mixed from small rat reds to fish over thirty two inches. Snook fishing is good and getting better each day. The best fish so far this year is a thirty six incher. I have been mixing up the days for the most part fishing for mackerl and trout part of the trips then fishing for snook and reds and still in a short period of time catching ten to twelve snook. Two years ago you were lucky to see any snook because of the freeze. Wish I had more time to do this report justice but I have to leave on another trip. Good Fishing! Capt. Rick Gross
