Stripers and Crappie

Lake Oconee

March 18, 2009 Water Temp 60 The bullets have returned! Many anglers wait for this moment each striper season and it is finally here. The stripers have started showing up at Wallace Dam and they are all big! Several anglers have began boating fishing in the 12 pound range using shad and big bass shiners. Down-lining and flat lines are the way to go. Throwing small flukes is also a great way to get a bite. This pattern will continue for an entire month, or until the last striper and hybrid spawns out. The warm weather has started this just a little early, which is a welcome break after all the rain we have had. The crappie are still biting good and we are still catching big slabs. It should be good for the next 2 weeks, and then I will focus attention strictly to the stripers.
