The tarpon fishery in the low country is underrated. We have several different populations that prowl our beach front areas, and up into our rivers and creeks. Our fishery here is pretty dependable starting July 1. I saw several last week up in the deep holes of one of our bigger creeks. Menhaden is key in catching these fish. They are following the big schools of bait that we have moving in the sound and up the rivers. Chumming with fresh cut Menhaden is a huge help, and most guides are fishing live Menhaden on bottom rigs, with usually one or two flat lined behind the boat. We don't normally see any smaller fish here, most will be 80 pounds and up. Give it a try.
