10-10-08 Business could be better but fishing is great. While the media press is all doom and gloom our fishing is productive. I am sorry that many of us are in a mess but if you are doing ok the fish are waiting. We went tarpon fishing twice this week and hooked up all we wanted too. We landed several fish from a hundred to almost one hundred fifty pounds. It was wonderful to enjoy some quality action and without crowds. Gas has even come down slightly. Times are tough but there are some bright spots, if you can find them. We have been catching some pompano recently but yesterday they outfoxed me. I had one on that pulled free as I was swinging it in the boat. I did catch a couple of permit for dinner and was so lucky that I caught a for sure bonefish to complete my first Keys Slam; I just did it in Charlotte Harbor. Tarpon in the AM and bonefish and permit in the PM. Thank the Lord for such a special treat. Now if I can just talk up some more trips do keep things rolling forward. I am seeing some reds and snook but have not targeted them because so many others are. I hear there are still some mackerel and kings outside but have now ventured out far enough to locate em. The main migration of fish are still north of us now and should continue to be moving thru with ever push of weather for the next month. Calm seas let us outside to chase the big ones and windy days we have our inside snook and redfish action. I don't know how long the tarpon will continue but is red hot for now. We do have more silver kings mixed with the kings, due to pass by outside soon also. I hope our economy improves quickly and maybe you can slip away and forget the mess for a day of great fishing soon. Let's Go Fishin' Captain Van Hubbard
