The bite is still on

Lake Oconee

July 22, 2009 Water temp 85 The striper and hybrid bite on Lake Oconee is getting ready to go into the summer time pattern. Typically what I mean by this is, the fish shut down. Since Wallace Dam has a pump-back feature on it turbines, it eliminates the possibility of any substantial thermocline developing. The result of this is very lethargic fish during the summer months. However not all is lost. We have been fishing in the tailrace of Wallace Dam, actually the north end of Sinclar, and catching a lot of fish. The stripers run up there because the water is really oxygenated and the catches are really good. Throw live bait into the surf and let it go to the bottom. Many days it never gets that far down before a big fish eats it. Some one told me that this type of fishing will continue throughout the month of August. I sure hope so. Tight Lines Doug
