The fall migration has begun!

Anna Maria

The days are getting shorter and just a little cooler. If we notice the difference you can bet the fish do. Bait is stacking up at the mouth of Tampa bay as well as just of the beaches. I went on a busmen's holiday on Friday with a group of friends to check out the opening of gag grouper season. We stayed inside of sixty feet of water and managed six keeper gags, one keeper red, one really nice mangrove snapper and one big flounder. While out on the reefs we saw several nice kingfish skyrocket. Closer in on the beaches spanish mackerl where tearing into big schools of bait. Inside the bay red fishing continues to get better. Fish in the thirty to thirty four inch range tend to be closer to the mouth of the bay on the bulkheads. While keeper fish in the slot seem to be further up in the back of the bay. Trout fishing is still productive on the deeper grass flats. Just find clear water with good tide movement an you should be in business. Good Fishing! Capt. Rick Gross
