The bite this past week in and around Estero Bay was very good with variety and size. The redfish have been taking shrimp tipped jig heads thrown around the mangroves on high water. As the water recedes they move to the nearby grass flats and here anglers can try shrimp under a float. There has been a really good trout bite on the flats using shrimp under a popping cork. Look for 3-5 feet of water near the passes. The sheepshead are starting to move into the backbays around the oyster bars and mangroves islands and will take shrimp tipped jig heads. Anglers must remember that they are good bait stealers, so down size your hooks and tie on smaller leader to get a better fell of the bite. You will also pick up flounder and sea trout with this method. If you want action try the passes for trout, ladyfish, jacks, and small Spanish mackerel. Dragging shrimp on ¼ oz jig heads will work best.
