This week in Estero Bay

Estero Bay

This past week the target species has been redfish and trout. They both are feeding well and anglers should be able to get some for dinner. The redfish have been hanging around the mangroves and oyster bars on higher water and move to the surrounding grass areas on falling tides. Shrimp on a float up around the oyster bars and mangroves has been the key to getting them to feed. You can also try shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads in the deeper water around the islands. As for the trout, shrimp under a popping cork worked in 3-5 feet of water with grass bottom is the ticket. Work the grass flats near the passes as these have better water clarity. There is also a steady sheepshead bite going on in the back right now. Shrimp tipped jig heads or #1 circle hooks with a split shot will work best worked up along the mangroves and oyster bars. Remember they are great bait stealers so break your shrimp into pieces to increase your chances. Now is a great time to get out and enjoy some really good fishing.
