The fishing in and around Estero Bay remained very good this past week. The seatrout bite over the grass flats continues to be really good. Shrimp under a popping cork was the go-to method. Anglers should locate 2.5 – 4 feet of clean water, near the passes this is where they will find the trout. You will also pick up ladyfish with this approach. The redfish bite was good on high water around the mangroves. Anglers will find the best redfish action on the ½ hour before and ½ hr after high tide. This seems to be when they are feeding best. Also on windy days use the wind to your advantage by fishing the wind driven mangrove islands. The wind helps push the bait up against the mangroves and this is where you will find the red's. ¼ oz jig heads tipped with shrimp will work fine for this approach. The sheepshead continue to get ready for their spawn and are active around the oyster bars and mangrove islands. Shrimp tipped jig heads will work best for them. Down size you tackle to #1/0 hooks and 15 lb leader to increase your chances for these bait stealers.
