The fishing this past week was spot on, no pun intended. The redfish bite is very good right now and tailing fish are the target. Fly fishing with clousers or shrimp pattern has been the key to getting them. Getting out and wading in the shallows has produced the best chance. They are tailing in about 1 1/2 feet of water following the mullet schools. Find the bait and start casting. If artificial are your idea of a good time try gold spoons, jerk shads, and top water plugs they have also been working on them. There has also been a good snook bite around the floating docks and mangroves. Live bait on 2/0 circle hooks will work best, but anglers can try white gulp jerk shads or white paddle tail grubs on 1/8 oz jig heads. Let the baits drift under the docks with the current and slowly retrieve them to you. The bite is really good right now, but get out early and avoid the afternoon storms and the heat. Drink plenty of fluids and wear your sunscreen.
