What a gret December

Estero Bay

This past week the fishing continued to be pretty good with a decent variety boated daily. Shrimp on a jig head around the mangroves on high water produced some good numbers of redfish with some in the slot. You really need to work an area well before moving on. Give each location a chance and try chumming it just might help your chances. You can also try this method along the oyster bars on high water. You will also start to pick up sheepshead as they begin to make their way into the backbay waters around the oyster bars and mangroves. If you are targeting sheepshead remember to downsize your circle hooks and go light on the leader so you can increase your sensitivity. The trout bite over the grass flats is on fire right now, but keep in mind the season is still closed for a few more weeks. Shrimp under a popping cork will work best for them. Look for them in 3-5 feet of water, that seems to be where they are hanging out. If you just want some good action try just inside the passes, they are loaded with ladyfish. Bounce a shrimp on a jig head on the bottom or use the shrimp popping cork method. They will provide hours of entertainment for people of all ages.
