White bait equals Snook Reds Trout and Snapper

Matlacha

24 April 2015 Haven't written reports in the last couple weeks due to being extremely busy fishing. Throughout the north half of Matlacha on around through jug creek bait is everywhere making even a novice cast net thrower look like a pro! I have been fishing everywhere from Burnt store, Matlacha pass, Pine Island sound and the fish bite is on when you have moving water. My clients have caught a lot of 14-16 inch mangrove snapper, mid 20 inch snook with quite a few slots mixed in, slot reds and monster trout. It's awesome how using white bait over shrimp ups the size of your catches of snapper and trout. I've been using 15lb FINS braid with 20lb flouro leader and a 2/0 owner mutu light circle hook to catch all. The water clarity is cloudy in the south half of Pine Island sound and stained in the south part of Matlacha pass and as for me this makes the fishing even better knowing where the fish should be with the prevailing winds and current and helps a lot when my clients are a little noisier than I prefer. Fishing the central and north ends of both the sound and Matlacha pass the water is clearer and making it easier to spot fish but using any heavier of leader material will hurt your numbers when hooking up. Reds have been biting everything from cut bait to live white bait, although I prefer cut bait when I know they are around. Tight Lines If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it. I'm also on Facebook at Jimbo's Charters. Captain Jim 239-671-4692
