Winter Time Snook

Clearwater

Our Mercury Marine Pro Team member Capt. John O'Hanlon says the Snook have moved up into the residential canals and creeks. We have been catching nice Snook close to the fresh water spring where the water temperatures are near 72 degrees. There have been many around the springs that would not eat, but they bite right at the spring head or very close. We have been using Rockport Rattler jig heads with a green tiger stripe paddle tail jig. The Snook don't put up quite the fight we see in the spring, they are more lethargic. Remember to spend a few minutes to help them recover from the fight by running water thru their gills, moving them back and forth thru the water. We have been using 10-12 pound test with about 18 inches of 20 pound fluorocarbon leader
