Report:ay 13, 2005 Report May 13, 2005 Hi Folks, Good luck this Friday the 13th! Fishing is heating up fast. Most of the bonito have gone, but they have been replaced by some very nice spanish. We had a good week of weather and good things are happening fast. Inshore: Red drum fishing along with flounder is picking up. Live bait is now around in the river...small menhaden and should be moving in just about everywhere soon. Most reds are being caught near dock pilings in the ICW and creeks, while the flounder are hanging around the inlets. Best bait is a live menhaden on a carolina rig. Nearshore: Big spanish macks have arrived in numbers and are now biting off Kure, Carolina and Wrightsville Beach. A few bonito and blues are mixed in and even an occasional king has been caught. Best bait is a 00 clarkspoon fished on a #1 planer. Offshore: Obviously the kings are moving in closer. I have not ventured far out for them yet, but would expect to find some action in the 10-20 mile areas very soon...probably this weekend. Gulfstream: Gulfstream fishing is producing some tuna, some wahoo, some mahi and some billfish. The Cape Fear Blue Water Open is this weekend. The fishing seen is busting wide open so now is time to make plans to get at them. Tip: most area guides are getting booked farther and farther in advance, so get your date early.
