Wrightsville Beach to Cape Fear River

Wrightsville Beach

June 2, 2005 June 2, 2005 Hi Folks, I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day holiday and got a chance to catch some of the fish that bit hard that weekend. I just got back from 2 days of cobia fishing at Cape Lookout...hooked a couple but no successful landings. Fishing has been fantastic. We had a little blow yesterday and some more today, but we are looking good for the next few days. Inshore: Fishing with live bait we are catching some reds and some flounder. While the reds have been great, flounder have been a bit of a challenge, but with the seasonable weather (finally) that should change overnight. Nearshore: This has been the hottest fishing season for nearshore spanish, blues and small kings I have seen in recent years. Sunday we caught 45+ spanish, 5 kings, and 4 nice blues in less than 4 hours. We are catching these fish on spinning tackle using the Yozuri Deep Diver, slow trolled at about 3 to 3.5 knots. Great action! Offshore: Bigger kings have now moved into the 10 mile areas. Live bait, cigar minnows, or Yozuri lures will catch 10-15 pound kings. Look for mahi to move into the 18-23 mile range within the next 2 weeks. Gulfstream: Good catches of mahi have been reported. Billfish action is doing well also. Despite some of the weather issues we have had to face, this has been a great year so far and looks like it will only get better. Every year fishing is a little different. I guess that is what makes it so much fun. Take the time and enjoy the action. Don't miss this week's pic of the week: http://www.rodmancharters.com/report.htm Let's Go Fishing!!! Capt.
